History
1836
The first license was granted to Rechlerich Farm, but distilling was low-key
1844
Licensed by Robert Hay, tenant of Rechlerich farm. It is said that the plant came from Dandaleith Distillery which closed in 1837
1865-70
Bought by John Grant, a neighbouring farmer, but production remained low-key until 1896. During this period John Smith, of Cragganmore Distillery, was in charge

The Glenfarclas-Glenlivet Distillery Co. Ltd. was formed, half of which was owned by Pattison, Elder & Co. and the other half by the Grant family
1896
The Distillery was entirely rebuilt, and within 10 years the Whisky was very famous. George Grant, the son of John Grant, was a friend of the Royal Family and went shooting at Balmoral Castle

Pattisons Ltd. (incorporated 1896) bankrupt

Re-acquired by the Grants after the bankruptcy of Pattisons Ltd.

1 Wash still was converted to steamheating. In two weeks time an amount of 300 hogsheads was produced, but the quality was not what was expected and the still was converted back to gasfiring. The produced whisky only used for blending
